Search Engine Optimisation Techniques – Press Releases

Posted by seo at 6:45 AM
In the world of SEO a lot of time is spent discussing ways to market your content, build links and drive qualified traffic to your website. There are a lot of techniques you can use as part of the search engine optimisation process, but one technique is known and not spoken about very much. I read a lot of relevant search engine optimisation literature and rarely come across posts on press releases. We all know that press releases can be an effective way of increasing your site visibility, but do we all know how to use them best in order to achieve the greatest results?
What many people do not realise about press releases is that they do not only create one way inbound links to your pages but they also, if created effectively, can bring a ton of traffic to your site.
I would strongly advise at this point to consider writing more than one press release, remember the more information about your website there is out there, the more surfers will be attracted to your site.
Press releases are usually designed for a special audience and are often delivered to specialist news sites, this is why when writing your press release you should present yourself and your brand in a positive, professional manner. As I have said if you carry out this process effectively and to the letter you should have a good chance of seeing pretty amazing results from your press releases.
Please pay close attention to these tips

When you are creating the release please try to observe the following points:-
1 – Your aim should be to attract media attention so try and write your content in an eye catching way. The ultimate purpose of a press release is to be newsworthy, you should really try to include a hook, something that makes your site different, something that would attract customers your way.
2 – If you start your release with a couple of stale paragraphs you will soon lose you readers attention. Also stay away from cheap promotional text, try and follow the main journalism rules of answering as many open questions as you can think of, the W’s (where, who, what, why, when) This will help provide the readers with useful information about your products and services.
3 – You should really include real life examples of how your services have genuinely helped somebody. Please, please stay away from the old cliches “customers save money” – “great customer service”, it sounds really cheap.
4 – Keep things real. Don’t try to talk up your products too much or exaggerate, the media are already skeptical about what you have to say, you will turn them off quickly with hype.
5 – Don’t over write, only use the words which are necessary to tell your story. Long winded press releases can quickly be ignored.
6 – Your last paragraph should describe your company, products and services and leave the reader with an overall good opinion of you and your business.
7 – Write out your press release on a word processor first, take the time to do it right. Write, print, proof read, rewrite…etc
8 – Be sure you include all of the important information such as – name, phone number, e-mail, URL, company name and date of release.
9 – I would try to release one press release a month, keep your information fresh and at the forefront. Also be ready to answer any questions reporters may have about you and your website.
